More than Just Making It

Goals for Soren:
* learn visualization and relaxation techniques
* practice loving his "enemy"
* help to cook breakfast

Goals for Carl:
* learn to put on his own shoes
* help to cook breakfast

Goals for Sven:
* sleep
* play independently in the crib for 10 minutes every morning

Goals for Carolyn:
* get up at 6:30 every morning
* exercise with Michelle 3 afternoons a week
* read fiction

Goals for Mom:
* talk less, sing more
* respond consistently and lovingly to Soren's distress (grown-up PUPD)
* safeguard regular wake-times and nap times for Sven
* use a calendar--don't over-schedule our family!

* I thoroughly enjoyed reading Skyward. * Soren beat Megaman 1 without dying. * Carl was swamped with art homework. His teacher assigned him 5 mini-paintings, 30 gradients, and 1 shading. * Sven finished reading the Frog and Toad treasury. * Leif talked a lot about wanting to make a friend. * Richard got to listen to lots and lots of read-a-louds.

Brother Love

Most of the time, Soren and Carl don't really interact with their new baby brother. They do their own things, neither commenting nor complaining about our new addition, and he does his own things (eating and sleeping). But when they do interact, Soren and Carl are really loving to Sven. Those moments are very sweet to me. Like last night, when Soren asked me if Sven could sit in his lap. He actually makes that request pretty frequently. And then he sits there, with Sven cuddled in his lap, looking very proud and happy. Often, one of the boys will tell me very earnestly, "I want Sven to be a part of our family forever." What mother wouldn't melt at that? In the evenings, after scripture study, Soren likes to make Sven "talk", sharing his thoughts on the day. Soren uses the same gravelly voice that Scott does to put words in the baby's mouth. "My favorite part of the day was eating," he'll say, while holding up Sven's ...
